Prepare to Cross the Threshold (Prophetic Word)

A threshold is a crossover point—a transition—an entranceway into something new. It can be a place, a moment or a season in time.

And right now, I believe God is speaking to many about being at a threshold:

“Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.” (Isaiah 42:9, NKJV)

During a threshold season, you may have a sense of anticipation, but it is also a challenging time.

What lies ahead for you is significant, and you are aware God is preparing you.

A deep work may be taking place in your life.

Signs You are at a Threshold

At a threshold, you may relate to some of the following signs:

  • You have recently been experiencing the call of God to greater intimacy with Him
  • There are signs and stirrings around you. You can identify with the feeling, ‘change is in the air!’
  • You may sense a new opportunity is going to open up
  • You may have come to the end of your own resources in fulfilling the call of God
  • Or, you find yourself facing an unavoidable change of circumstances in your life
  • As you look towards the future, your faith is being tested by what you see [1]
  • A threshold is not always situational. You may feel drawn to a move of the Holy Spirit you believe lies just ahead, in your current circumstances

The Spirit’s Anointing is Moving You Forwards

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before…” Joshua 3:3-4 NIV

At the threshold, there is something to leave behind and an obedience to embrace.

It may even seem as though God’s Presence and anointing has lifted from where you’ve been, and is moving onwards.

  • At the threshold, you may be uncomfortable
  • Your future may be in mystery

But your Father, who loves you, has a plan.

3 Responses to Make at the Threshold

Today, be inspired by these 3 people from Scripture who experienced threshold moments—and lessons we can learn from them:

1. The Threshold is a Time to Pray

There was a moment in time when Esther stood at the threshold of the King’s Court.

‘Now it happened on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace, across from the king’s house, while the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house…’ (Esther 5:1)

During the days leading up to that moment, Esther had taken time to fast and call on others to do so. She knew that her life was at risk, as she prepared to intercede for her people, the Jews.

At your threshold, turn your heart and life over fully to God.

Surrender the outcome to your Heavenly Father and acknowledge your dependency upon Him.

Pray, and receive the support and prayers of others around you.

As you pray, know that circumstances are being lined up.
Favor is being released to you for what lies ahead.

2. The Threshold is a Time to Release the Past

Naomi told her daughter-in-law Ruth, “Boaz…is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor…”

At this threshold, it was time for Ruth to leave her past behind.

Ruth honored Naomi, following her instructions. She washed, anointed herself with oil and prepared to commit herself to her future with a new bridegroom.

At the threshold, just as Ruth served Naomi, God calls on us to continue to serve faithfully and to finish well. [2]

At your threshold, receive God’s healing from grief over that which has been lost and shall never be recovered.

Trust your Father to provide for you and take care of your future.

Now, receive your fresh anointing and put on the garments of praise.
Step humbly, but boldly into what He has ahead for you.

3. The Threshold is a Time to Consecrate Your Life to God

‘Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand…’ (Josh 5:13a, NIV)

On the verge of the Promised Land—Jericho—Joshua faced the biggest battle of his life to date.

But there, right on that ground, he had a visitation from the Captain of the Lord of Hosts.

At the threshold, you may be facing the biggest battle of your life. But your Father is far greater than your enemy, and He has a plan.

Now is the time to consecrate your life to God.
This is a time to encounter His Presence and to listen, so you can hear and follow His instructions.

At the threshold, take off your shoes, for this is holy ground.

  1. Thank you Helen! Right on again for me!

God has been preparing my heart by speaking and confirming His voice that things were going to change in my life. About three months ago He even gave me a picture a veil, a threshold, in front of me and asked me to take the step across. It was scary because, although I didn’t know the specifics, I knew I had to leave something behind.

Good thing it was months of preparation for me, because very quickly this month of February He opened new doors and poured out His love on me as a consecration and confirmation that I have stepped into something new and incredible from Him. . .just starting to see it take place and bear fruit. . .kind of scary, being led 100% by His Spirit with LOTS of confirmation, but I’ve never been here before quite like this, and am walking DAILY by faith, not really knowing where I’m going.

This afternoon doubts were starting to settle in – then I came across your email. Thank you for your timely obedience! Much love –

    1. I can really identify with you on ‘never been here before quite like this, and…not really knowing where I’m going.’ :-) What an adventure with the Spirit!

  2. Hi Helen, praise be to the Lord. Thank you so much for the word, I totally relate with it. This is indeed divine instruction to me. I have really been experiencing this in my life of recent and didn’t know how to go about it. Thank you so much for releasing such a timely word from the Father. God bless you

  3. Hello Helen thank you for sharing this timely message. I have had dreams and visions since 2016 but I stopped having them recently and I am wondering if this is a sign for me to move into another level that God intends for me. Thank you for shedding more light by the word of God. God bless you and your work.

    1. Yes when it comes to spiritual gifts, a lull in one area can be a signal of increase (or a wave coming) in another!

  4. I am currently at a place where I feel like I’m wrestling with God like Jacob at the brook Jabbok It’s a place where I feel as if I don’t have the strength to pray, sometimes I don’t even think that I feel the anointing of God. I know that I’m in transition, learning to trust God’s hand where I cannot see him

    1. Ooh thank you for that Esther, you reminded me of something I wrote a long time ago, here’s an excerpt:
      ‘Jabbok’ means emptying.
At this place called ’emptying’, Jacob has an up close and personal encounter with God; one that is unique to him and not experienced by anyone else in the Bible. He leaves that encounter saying, “I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” (Gen 32:30)
You may feel as though you have been going through a time of emptying and transition.
Know that God has called and created you to encounter Him. And right now is a season of encounter as He launches you into a new era. Hear your Father saying:
“I have been present with you in the emptying. And I have allowed the emptying so that I may fill you, fill your hands and fill your storehouse and provision and in this new season, give you a resurrection harvest.”

  5. Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Just wow.. This post about the threshold is spot on for exactly what is going on in my life, Thank you for this word, of encouragement and also a huge confirmation. I have been feeling it for a while, sensing it. and now I am beginning to see bits and pieces unfold like steps out in front of me. Thank you Helen for sharing what our response should be during this time. I had sensed that definitely need to be in more prayer, and its also been obvious about the battle part.. largely in my thoughts, and the narrative playing in my head at times. But I am taking strides, and staking my ground ! Thank you again so very much Helen.

  6. Thanks for these timely words.
May God’s hands continually be mighty upon your life in Jesus name amen
