How To Receive Your Fresh Anointing

47 Comments on How To Receive Your Fresh Anointing

A new season requires a fresh anointing.

Fresh AnointingEven their greatest critics had to admit it.

Peter and John’s behaviour, speech, boldness and power were tangible evidence of the time they had spent in close relationship with Jesus.

‘When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.’ (Acts 4:13)

The Spirit’s Anointing ‘Rubs Off’

Our English expression, ‘to rub off’, means ‘to have an effect through close association or contact…so as to make similar.’ [1]

For example, if you brush up against a freshly painted door, wet paint will rub off on you.

Jesus’ attributes and anointing rubbed off onto His disciples. Their close contact with Him changed them.

Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed (chrio) me…” (Luke 4:18)

The Greek word translated anointed, ‘chrio’, means ‘to smear or rub with oil.’  The imagery speaks of the physical act of anointing, and is used metaphorically of being anointed with the Holy Spirit. [2] There is something in that picture that is prophetic—conveying the Father’s heart and purpose for our lives.

‘To smear or rub with oil.’

God desires to get up close and personal with you. When you encounter Him, the Spirit’s Presence and power rubs off onto your life in such a way that others witness it and hunger for a close relationship with God for themselves.

The anointing is not a commodity; it is not a ‘thing.’ It is the Person of the Holy Spirit. And that hunger that you have right now for the indefinable ‘more’ of God, for His Presence and His anointing—that is a gift of the Spirit.

4 More Ways to Receive a Fresh Anointing

In addition to spending personal time with God, here are 4 more things to consider as you seek a fresh anointing from God for your life and ministry:

1. A Fresh Encounter with God Through His Word

‘And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.’ (2 Cor 3:18)

The Greek word translated ‘contemplate’ in this verse, means to look into a mirror. [3] In context, Paul is saying that we don’t have a blinded understanding—we have the fullness of the Gospel that reveals Jesus.

It is on God’s heart that you encounter Him in the Bible, catching a fresh revelation of Who He is and see mirrored there who you are in the process of becoming. When you do, you experience transformation, you encounter God and you receive a fresh touch from Him.

2. Make Room for More

‘In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.’ (2 Tim 2:20-21 NIV)

The ‘latter’ that Paul referred to was false teaching and ungodly talk. What is that thing that the Holy Spirit is putting His finger on in your life right now and He is saying, ‘It’s time for that to go’?

Maybe it is fear or intimidation, or lack of self worth. Perhaps you need to release bitterness and forgive someone. Maybe it is an area of struggle or temptation—and you need to bring it into the light and share with a leader what is going on. It could be distractions that are keeping you from focusing on God.

Sometimes in order to be filled and receive more, we need to make room and we need to be cleansed.

3. Close Association with Others who are Anointed

What is ‘rubbing off’ onto you from the people who are around your life? What is ‘rubbing off’ from you onto others?

If possible, get around people who have the Presence of God on their lives and who carry the integrity, attributes, gifts and spiritual DNA that God has called you to have on your own life.

Learn from them, receive from them, and study them and what they do.

You can do this even when there is a distance between you. My husband Malcolm, aka ‘The Hunk’ and I are privileged to be on David McCracken’s prophetic team. Every week I get to spend time with a group of people who are not only fun to be with, they are also passionately in love with God. And even though we travel frequently, I can still listen to podcasts from our church, Planetshakers. These people and ministries are God’s gift to us and help us stay fresh, continually leading us into God’s Presence.

4. Receive a Fresh Anointing Through Prayer

Praying and receiving prayer are one way that you can receive a fresh impartation of the Holy Spirit’s anointing.

Recently I received prayer with anointing by oil for healing. (James 5:14) The fragrance of the oil lasted all day—reminding me in every moment of the time we had spent in God’s Presence.

Sometimes the very act of humbling yourself and confessing to God and others, ‘I’m hungry for more of God and His anointing’ is what it takes to receive a fresh touch of the Holy Spirit on your life.

Hi Helen, Thank you so much for this very Beautiful HOLY SPIRIT Breathed Prophetic Teaching, I Love it. Your Teaching is always a constant source of Inspiration, Encouragement and Blessing to us. This is a little poem I wrote during the week while I was reflecting on this Teaching about the Fresh Anointing and the Presence of GOD. I have called this “The Peace of GOD Covers me, just like the gentle Rain I See”
I will Abide Under the Shadow of the ALMIGHTY
I will Focus the Eyes of my Heart, on JESUS my KING
Waves of HIS Glory Flooding All Over my Soul
Waves of HIS Glorious Presence, are making me Whole

The Peace of GOD Covers me, just like the gentle Rain I See
Showers of HIS Presence, Refreshing my Heart
Showers of HIS Presence, Restoring my Soul
Showers of HIS Presence ALIVE in me

Such a Wonderful, Glorious, Beautiful Mystery
CHRIST is ALIVE in me, How can I ever Comprehend
The Infinite Wisdom of GOD, that has NO END

The Peace of HIS Presence Abides in me
Through every Season of my Life you See

  13. Ebhodaghe Godstime

Hi Helen, I Like This Article On Recieving Fresh Anointing”, It’s Very Practical.

There Is A Challenge I’m Experiencing, When I Pray Or Sing People Around Testify That They See/experience The Presence Of God around me but i personally don’t feel, see or experience anything. I’m totally shut out of spiritual experiences.

No matter how many days i fast and pray, i don’t hear god’s voice, i don’t feel his presence, no vision/trance and nothing like heavenly dreams.

All my friends in varying degrees have this enablement or gift; even unbelievers. Atimes i stay in front roll in programs, haply the preacher will touch me so that i that i’ll be slain under the anointing. I have also gone to several anointed men of god to pray for me one on one but to no avail.

I’m really frucstrated, i’ve gone for deliverance too. Imagin all my life, 34yrs old, i’ve never heard a whisper, still small voice, felt god’s presence or devine visitation. Funny enough – i’m a pastor and i know i have a call

    I REALLY NEED HELP

  14. Ebhodaghe Godstime

    I SERIOUSLY NEED HELP

Hi helen. Your aticle is practically down to earth but i don’t know what is wrong with me.

I’m 34yrs old and a pastor but all my life i’ve never heard: a whisper, still small voice, trance/vision, heaven dreams or divine visitation. This has made me doubted my calling but i’m convinced within me i have a call. My ministarial and personal life has not made headways. I don’t know what to do anymore.

I’ve gone for deliverance, impartations, made friends with people that have this enablements to no avail. No matter how i fast and pray or fellowship i feel nothing; it’s like i’m shut out of the presence and experiences of god. But people around me testify that they have these experiences even through my prayers and singing but i’m shut out.

  16. Dee

Hi Helen: I am a pastor and your articles have been life-changing. I feel like I need a fresh anointing, I need the demonstration of power in my ministry. I am a teacher and I operate in some prophetic gifts, but I do not hold the office of Prophet. I feel like I’m missing His tangible presence and I really need to get it back

    1. Helen Calder Post author

Hi Dee, am praying for you now, for a new, fresh encounter with God that is like a miracle to your heart. May you receive back and more <3

    Helen
Wow, your last two words have been spot on for me, I feel HIS leading and empowering and opening doors. My soul is hungry/ thirsty for more! oddly yes I am one of the ” untrained’ ones, but it does not matter at this moment, because I know HE has called me and is given me all I need.
Thank you so very much for your willingness to be an instrument of our Great God JEhovah

  19. Kathy

Helen you are accurate! He is pouring out upon me in a new and exciting way.
I sense getting me ready for Healing Ministry.
However, the warfare is intense I am fully persuaded to stay on course with Holy Spirit.
Staying in His presence guarding what I say and do.
    Your blog is very encouraging.
If Holy Spirit happens to share anything further with you regarding me please feel free to send me an email
    Thank you
    Kathy

  20. Trish

Helen; The thing I love about you (besides everything) is that I recieve very few emails from you and when I do, I know even before I read them that they are going to fire off like an arrow and hit the bullseye of my heart and this time wass no different. Gods mercy and grace have left me staggering. I can’t even begin to explain the level of faithfulness He has saturated me in on this post. The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit are so outrageous in their comitment towards us… I want everyone who is in process to understand that they understand why we doubt, but please know this; and I say this with all sincerity. If they were going to give up on anyone it should’ve been me, and it should’ve happened a few years ago. This is not false humility. I still don’t even understand how or why I have pushed things so far for so long. They did nothing to deserve anything but my gratitude. They do not change! I dont even know what else to say right mow because there really are no words to describe how powerfully they are in Love with us. And I think thats what I havent been able to accept. I dont know how, but I am going to figure it out instead of being afraid that there could ever be a possibility that the could leave too. They WONT! They do Exactly what they say they will and Never leave or forsake us means NEVER. Thanks Helen. You da best, Sister… I pray that you recieve a Blessing that is so special to your heart that you wont even be able to ecplain it for 2 days. lol omg He is so like that! Love YOU Elohim!

Wonderful, Trish. I’ve only just spotted this as I find it hard to keep up with comments on older posts 🙂

  21. John Tsang

The article on ‘How to receive a fresh anointing’ comes at an opportune time for me. For me this is a season of change as my church started a series on being in God’s rest last Sunday. I am meeting with one of the elders on a regular basis. In all my 40 years as a Christian, I have never had someone who I could be accountable to, whom I could met and pray. Now its happening! I’ve been involved in three ministry activities at church which I have to step down from two of them so I concentrate and focus on the actual service content! I also have more time in the evenings to devote to Bible study and prayer. Over the last year, I cut down on the hours to watching TV and streaming to practically a couple of hours a week and that is on selective programmes. I may not even have the TV on at all. So what it all for…to wait upon the Lord to see what He requires me to do.
