Prophetic GuidanceHas God directed you to begin a new project or ministry, or to launch into a new season with Him?

The story of the rebuilding of the temple in Ezra provides us with an inspiring look at the way God moves by His Spirit.

It also encourages us concerning the part we play in worship and dedication, when beginning a fresh phase of life, family, work or ministry with Him.

1. Let God Launch you Into Your new Season

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.’ (Zechariah 4:6)

As the book of Ezra opens, God moves the heart of Cyrus, King of Persia, to order and provide for the rebuilding of God’s temple in Jerusalem. King Cyrus even releases the treasures Nebuchadnezzar originally took from the temple. And now he instructs the people of Judah to rebuild the temple.

It says in Ezra 1:5 that ‘The family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites—everyone whose heart God had moved—prepared to go up and build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.’ It is a move of God, orchestrated by the Holy Spirit.

As our own new adventure with God begins, we have received the word of the Lord, we have a clear sense of direction, the wisdom and affirmation of oversight and we launch out in faith.

And as Ezra observed, in this beginning stage, we may see a supernatural move of God happen. There may be Divine acceleration taking place.

Perhaps like Judah did, we have a prophetic word, miraculous provision or clear confirmation. There may be a manifestation of spiritual gifts. Unusual favour may be given to us that causes doors of opportunity to open as we step out in obedience.

The Purpose of Supernatural Signs and Guidance

Why is it so often that there is strong, miraculous prophetic guidance and provision when we first start out under a directive from God?

One reason is, to assure us that this is truly from Him. It is a form of confirmation.

But another reason is, when the times get tough, our Father knows that we are going to need something to look back on and say,

‘I know without a shadow of a doubt, that was God. I can never doubt His guidance. I stepped out of the boat at His word and storm or no storm, I am going to keep my eyes on Jesus.’

It is vital that like Ezra did, we take note of what God has said, and the ways that He has led and provided for us during this stage.

The Hunk and I moved from New Zealand to Australia in 2002 for a ministry position here. Prior to coming to Australia, we had received clear prophetic signs and guidance and miraculous provision. We also had the confirmation, affirmation and prayerful release of our ministry board and local church leadership.

We didn’t know that we were about to enter two years of severe trial in our ministry—but even during the toughest times we could look back and know with the utmost confidence that we were exactly where Father wanted us. We were in the centre of His purposes.

Perhaps it is time to go back and review the goodness of God that led you to the place where you are now. Retell the stories of how God brought you to this place, remember the miracles and revive the testimonies of God’s provision once again. Your Father is coming through for you!

2. Begin a new Season with Worship and Dedication

In Ezra chapter 3, we read that the people gathered together in unity in Jerusalem and before they did anything else to do with the temple, they built an altar.

The first thing they did was to restore worship.

In the beginning stage, of any relationship, any vocation, any business, any ministry or call of God, let’s remember what is most important: Intimacy with God—worship, putting God first.

We need to be able to look back at every important intersection of our lives and see an altar.

My husband and I know the moment and the place we dedicated each of our two children to God in our church in New Zealand. As they grow into young adulthood there are times we need to remind God and ourselves of that fact! We know they are in our Father’s hands.

We need to be able to look back at our business, career, marriage, family, and be able to say, ‘Right there, we dedicated this to God.’

And if there is any area in your life, where you cannot clearly say you have done that, it is never too late.

Is the Holy Spirit putting something on your heart that you need to dedicate, or rededicate to Him?

Take some time to pray, and in some way, mark the moment, so that in time to come you can look back and say, right then I surrendered my son or daughter, my spouse, my business, my ministry to God. I know that they are in His hands and I choose to be a faithful steward of that which my Father God has entrusted to me.
