Discovery: How to Navigate a Prophetic Season of Discovery

What is a Prophetic Season of Discovery?

Have you ever had a moment of sudden clarity—a revelation or a breakthrough idea? I believe we are in a prophetic season of discovery.

The word discover means “to find unexpectedly or in a search.” [1] God is the author of discovery, and the Bible is full of stories where people encountered Him and stepped into their destiny.

“Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
(Isaiah 43:19a, NKJV)

A Journey With God

Discovery: What does a prophetic season of discovery mean? Text on green and black backgroundThose of us in an unfamiliar or uncomfortable place can especially relate to being on a “journey of discovery”.
Because right now, we need answers that only God can give.
We need a move of the Holy Spirit.

Last week, I wrote to my board, “The words that sum up this year for me so far are discovery, upgrade, new initiatives, renewal, and move of the Holy Spirit.”

At the word “discovery”, I paused. It seemed to carry weight.

Especially since, at the end of last year, I was uncertain about what lay ahead or how to move forward.
Yet much has changed.

7 Insights About a Season of Discovery

As I’ve meditated on this, here are some insights that stand out:

1. The Heart of Discovery is to Seek God First

A prophetic season of discovery begins with a heart to seek God Himself.

The Father invites us to search, not only for answers or provision, but for Him.

“You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13, NKJV)

When we encounter God, we hear His voice.
Just as He did with Moses, God declares His goodness to us (Exodus 33:18-22).
And right here, He reveals His mercy and power.

In such a moment, the apostle Paul heard Jesus say,

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9a, NLT)

2. The Bible is Full of Stories About Discovery

Sometimes what we discover has been hidden for generations, waiting for the right moment.

Like the priest Hilkiah, who found the book of the Law (2 Kings 22).

King Josiah was shaken when he heard it, realizing how far the nation had drifted from God.
And he began to take action.

  • A single discovery can lead to repentance, renewal, and revival.

It’s a biblical principle!
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is full of stories about discovery.

Isaac re-dug Abraham’s wells and discovered new sources of fresh water. A spring was a sign of God’s provision for his family, people, and flocks (Genesis 26).

3. Discovery Is Part of God’s Plan and Design

God leads us into Divine appointments—often with what feels like serendipity.
But then, we recognise His fingerprints on it.

Ruth came across Boaz’s field as she gathered barley grain. When she returned home, Naomi responded,

“Where did you glean today?… Blessed be the one who took notice of you.” (Ruth 2:19a)

This divine setup led Ruth from poverty to destiny.

God sets aside His provision ahead of time for His children.
Simply by walking in His paths, we discover it.

Even in the earliest chapters of Genesis, we see this: God placed gold in the land.
Jewels and precious stones were hidden, awaiting discovery by future generations.

Be encouraged, for you are created for discovery. It is your inheritance as a child of God.

4. What Discovery Can Look Like

In this prophetic season:

  • Provision comes when God has already set something aside for you.
  • Revelation happens as the Holy Spirit illuminates truth.
  • Perspective is a new way of seeing—its Latin root means “to see through.”
  • Ideas and strategy may emerge as practical insights that change everything.
  • God-given strategy can show you how to move forward, even revealing the enemy’s plans.

And wisdom is especially valuable.
Solomon wrote,

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom…She is more precious than rubies.” (Proverbs 3:13–15)

He personifies God’s wisdom as saying,

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me.” (Proverbs 8:17)

5. When Discovery Hurts, God Brings Comfort

But not every discovery is easy.
God is comforting those who have recently faced difficult or unsettling revelations.

For those who have faced painful news, betrayal, a diagnosis, or an unexpected challenge: God wants to meet you with His goodness.
He is always present, even in the dark.

“Even the darkness is not dark to You…” (Psalm 139:12)

As Elijah found out, our lowest point can be our launching pad.
There, we receive His fresh instructions and are renewed.

Even at what feels like rock bottom, we see Jesus extending His arms to us.
And our discovery awakens wonder.

6. A Call to Curiosity

Curiosity leads to exploration, where new territory holds fresh possibilities.

In a recent post, I wrote:
“When you lean into curiosity, you become a seeker.
You ask questions. You notice patterns and pursue breadcrumbs from the Holy Spirit.”

Like Nicodemus, who sought Jesus by night and received one of the greatest truths ever spoken—“you must be born again”—we are called to curiosity. (John 3)
To lean in, to ask, to explore.

7. Step Into Your Prophetic Discovery

What has God prepared for you to discover in this season?
Now is the time to ask Him.

As Jesus said of prayer,

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7, NKJV)

Step out in faith and curiosity—especially in unfamiliar territory.
You can be a pioneer in your own life. And know this:

God is the Author of discovery.
He loves to reveal Himself and lead you into all He has prepared for you.

“It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them.” (Prov 25:2, NLT)
