The Power of Your Anointed Resolve

There is one quality that is imperative to growing in your spiritual gifts, to staying on track, and to fulfilling God’s prophetic calling on your life.

That quality is resolve.

ResolveTo resolve means to ‘decide firmly on a course of action’, ‘to determine,’ and to ‘come to a definite or earnest decision about.’ [1]

‘But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.’ (Dan 1:8)

Daniel purposed in his heart to live a life that honoured God. That resolve resulted in Daniel having extraordinary governmental influence, and fulfilling his calling as a Prophet.

There is Power in Anointed Resolve

It is time for anointed resolve!

Resolve is anointed when:

  • The object of our resolve is the Father’s purpose and
  • We are reliant on the empowering of the Holy Spirit, not our own strength

Resolve comes from keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus. (Heb 12:1-2)

The Apostle Paul had this kind of resolve. He said, ‘Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.’ (Phil 3:12)

Your Resolve will Overcome the Enemy.

When you are on your journey with the calling of God, there will be opposition. Your resolve will be come under fire. Daniel’s resolve was tested when his enemies arranged to have a law passed against praying.

‘Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.’ (Dan 6:10)

Daniel’s resolve to serve God brought him promotion and favour, and along with it, persecution. He was thrown in the lions’ den, but God saved him. His enemies were exposed and destroyed and glory was given to God.

Resolve releases hurts and refuses to carry the weight of offense. Let Spirit-empowered resolve rise up on the inside of you, and do not settle for anything less than God’s best.

Resolve and the Prophetic Mantle

Elisha is an example of the power of unwavering resolve. From the time the Prophet Elijah first threw his mantle across Elisha’s shoulders, Elisha’s determination was fixed. Elisha stayed fully resolved until the end of his life and completely fulfilled God’s prophetic call on his own life. (1 Kings 19-2 Kings 2)

Resolve is unwavering.

You will only get to where God has called you with resolve. Resolve presses through obstacles and leads to breakthrough. Resolve perseveres; it will wait and take the prize.

There’s a time to wait, a time to pursue and a time to strike with your mantle

Resolve takes Elisha through the time of releasing his former life in his family business, and beginning a season of dedicated service to Elijah. Resolve holds him in place through the period when he serves as a menial servant and helper.

Resolve keeps Elisha in tenacious pursuit of Elijah, when it is time for God to take Elijah to Heaven.

Now, there is a moment when Elisha approaches the Jordan river, Elijah’s mantle in hand.

He has just lost his spiritual father—and now he is alone in his loss. A group of prophets on the opposite shore have their eyes on him. Right now, he faces a great challenge. Between Elisha and his destiny is an impassable river.

‘Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.’ (2 Kings 2:13-14)

How can Elisha strike the water with the mantle? He can do it because he has resolved to do whatever it takes to pursue God’s call on his life. At this moment he follows the example of Elijah—and through that action, others recognise that Elisha is walking in the spiritual authority that was on Elijah’s life.

Resolve to Pick up Your Mantle

A mantle is a Biblical metaphor for a ministry calling.

Elisha was not pursuing a mantle—he was pursuing Elijah, who wore the mantle. He was faithful until the end.

We are pursuing Jesus, and our desire is to honour Him by wearing the mantle that He has for us; the one that will give Him glory.

We want to reach our fullest potential and shine and let the world see Jesus displayed in and upon us.

I believe this is resonating with many of you, and God is calling you to ‘strike with your mantle.’ It’s time to pick up and use your gift. What you have may seem small—however, a small amount of revelation from the Holy Spirit, applied in faith, can be the ‘mustard seed’ God uses to create a big shift. (Matt 17:20)

You may be facing an impossibility. You may be dealing with a sense of loss, as Elisha was. It is time to let anointed resolve—a holy stubbornness—rise up on the inside of you. It is time to move forward.

I want to take the time to give thanks unto the Lord God and Jesus Christ for having His Holy Spirit inspire you to write this piece of wisdom and knowledge about mantels and pursing yours and determining to let nothing hinder your pursuit in achieving what the FATHER has purposed for our lives to give Him Glory.
