There is one quality that is imperative to growing in your spiritual gifts, to staying on track, and to fulfilling God’s prophetic calling on your life.

That quality is resolve.

ResolveTo resolve means to ‘decide firmly on a course of action’, ‘to determine,’ and to ‘come to a definite or earnest decision about.’ [1]

‘But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.’ (Dan 1:8)

Daniel purposed in his heart to live a life that honoured God. That resolve resulted in Daniel having extraordinary governmental influence, and fulfilling his calling as a Prophet.

There is Power in Anointed Resolve

It is time for anointed resolve!

Resolve is anointed when:

  • The object of our resolve is the Father’s purpose and
  • We are reliant on the empowering of the Holy Spirit, not our own strength

Resolve comes from keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus. (Heb 12:1-2)

The Apostle Paul had this kind of resolve. He said, ‘Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.’ (Phil 3:12)

Your Resolve will Overcome the Enemy.

When you are on your journey with the calling of God, there will be opposition. Your resolve will be come under fire. Daniel’s resolve was tested when his enemies arranged to have a law passed against praying.

‘Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.’ (Dan 6:10)

Daniel’s resolve to serve God brought him promotion and favour, and along with it, persecution. He was thrown in the lions’ den, but God saved him. His enemies were exposed and destroyed and glory was given to God.

Resolve releases hurts and refuses to carry the weight of offense. Let Spirit-empowered resolve rise up on the inside of you, and do not settle for anything less than God’s best.

Resolve and the Prophetic Mantle

Elisha is an example of the power of unwavering resolve. From the time the Prophet Elijah first threw his mantle across Elisha’s shoulders, Elisha’s determination was fixed. Elisha stayed fully resolved until the end of his life and completely fulfilled God’s prophetic call on his own life. (1 Kings 19-2 Kings 2)

Resolve is unwavering.

You will only get to where God has called you with resolve. Resolve presses through obstacles and leads to breakthrough. Resolve perseveres; it will wait and take the prize.

There’s a time to wait, a time to pursue and a time to strike with your mantle

Resolve takes Elisha through the time of releasing his former life in his family business, and beginning a season of dedicated service to Elijah. Resolve holds him in place through the period when he serves as a menial servant and helper.

Resolve keeps Elisha in tenacious pursuit of Elijah, when it is time for God to take Elijah to Heaven.

Now, there is a moment when Elisha approaches the Jordan river, Elijah’s mantle in hand.

He has just lost his spiritual father—and now he is alone in his loss. A group of prophets on the opposite shore have their eyes on him. Right now, he faces a great challenge. Between Elisha and his destiny is an impassable river.

‘Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.’ (2 Kings 2:13-14)

How can Elisha strike the water with the mantle? He can do it because he has resolved to do whatever it takes to pursue God’s call on his life. At this moment he follows the example of Elijah—and through that action, others recognise that Elisha is walking in the spiritual authority that was on Elijah’s life.

Resolve to Pick up Your Mantle

A mantle is a Biblical metaphor for a ministry calling.

Elisha was not pursuing a mantle—he was pursuing Elijah, who wore the mantle. He was faithful until the end.

We are pursuing Jesus, and our desire is to honour Him by wearing the mantle that He has for us; the one that will give Him glory.

We want to reach our fullest potential and shine and let the world see Jesus displayed in and upon us.

I believe this is resonating with many of you, and God is calling you to ‘strike with your mantle.’ It’s time to pick up and use your gift. What you have may seem small—however, a small amount of revelation from the Holy Spirit, applied in faith, can be the ‘mustard seed’ God uses to create a big shift. (Matt 17:20)

You may be facing an impossibility. You may be dealing with a sense of loss, as Elisha was. It is time to let anointed resolve—a holy stubbornness—rise up on the inside of you. It is time to move forward.

  1. Thank you so much. I had a dream and the word in my dream was ‘resolve’. In the late ’90’s I word cry everytime I heard Isaiah 61 in any form. That lasted for 2 years.
I have always had a heart and advocated for the poor and brokenhearted. My desire is for prophecy, to heal with miracles, signs and wonders. However, I have been denying that I was an evangelist because I was comparing myself with Billy Graham or Benny Hinn. I had never heard that Scripture taught as the evangelist passage until recently. Since then the passage of Isaiah 61 has been revealing itself again to me in unexpected places. Only now, I don’t cry…. I am in the process of accepting the resolve that though I don’t feel qualified to be an EVANGELIST, I am qualified to evangelize.

I have areas of my past that I am forgiving and taking responsibility for… Like believing the lies and allowing hurt and offense to hinder me in my ministry to the point of stepping away from it all.
I am pushing forward to reclaim that which was taken from me and I will take the prize. Amen!!

    1. I love that declaration you have made, Robin! ‘I am pushing forward to reclaim that which was taken from me and I will take the prize.’ My prayer is that many others will step up with those same words.
You will not only fulfil the calling of God upon your life, but your testimony will also inspire others who have felt as though they have been stuck in the background, but now the Holy Spirit is emboldening them to step forward and take their place in this season.
May you experience the overflow of God in this new era of freedom on your life.

Excellent post Helen.Thank you so much for this timely and meaty word. Very encouraging 🙂

    1. I love it when the Holy Spirit speaks to me about something that’s meaningful to me personally but is also a powerful and timely word to share with others, as He has with this one. Thank you Lorraine!

  3. Good afternoon I thank God for the insight and words of encouragement. I am in a strange place in my life I feel stagnant. I do relate with the resolve it speaks to the very core of my spirit. It’s like sitting on bench awaiting your number to be called or something. I know that God is up to Something Good. It is encouraging to know that others like myself exist. I am drawn to the Prophetic healing, and deliverance. Ever since I can remember God has always given me insight and dreams. I never had anyone around me who understands the calling on my life. Due to the lack of knowledge it has been my life’s challenge with my family.

  4. As I’m seeking the Father, concerning the outcome of a situation, I determined to remove my own thoughts and feelings and listen solely with my heart. Suddenly, I felt an overwhelming nausea that refused to pass. It encompassed my entire being and I couldn’t continue. Was that the enemy, my answer, or should I have pressed in?

      1. I sincerely apologized to the Father if I failed to make myself truly open and available to His visitation and let Him know that regardless of the physical ramifications, I need the impartation from Him. Now, I’m merely waiting.

  5. Hi Helen, Yes this Teaching speaks to me very much about Standing and Staying STRONG when the Storms of life come against me, makes me also think about the GOD BREATHED Promises, Prayers, and Declarations that have been spoken into my life. Yes, I have a testimony I have written as a Poem. I love Psalm 46:5, “GOD is in the midst of her, she shall NOT be MOVED, GOD shall HELP her, just at the Break of DAWN” and verse 10,”BE STILL, and KNOW that I am GOD”.

“The Winds of Change are Blowing, Refreshing Healing Waters are Flowing”

Healing Waters are Flowing so Crystal Clear, from Heavens Throne Room, I See a DOOR Appear

JESUS is Calling me to “Draw Near”

I will NOT be SHAKEN, and I will NOT be MOVED by what I SEE

When the Storm is raging all around me, and I feel that I cannot See
This One Thing I KNOW, “JESUS Calms the Storm in me”

It’s always darkest before the Dawn, and I KNOW a NEW DAY is ABOUT to be BORN

Weeping may endure for a night, but I KNOW that JOY comes in the Morning

Beyond the Fog, there is CLARITY

Beyond the Storm, there is VICTORY

Beyond the Winter, there is SPRING

Beyond the Night, there is LIGHT

    TRUST, Pray and Obey
READ, Rejoice, and Remember the WORD of GOD
MEDITATE on the WORD of GOD, make Melody in your Heart to the LORD

The STRENGTH of GOD will ALWAYS CARRY me, through Every Season of my Life you See

    Poem by Irene Kyriacou

    1. I love those verses from Psalm 46 too, Irene!
Thank you for sharing the poem, such a strong, anointed message of hope and resolve!

    1. Amen, Jose. God is clearly at work in your life.
Your comments always stir me to pray for Mexico. Holy Spirit, come heal and fill this land, let Jesus be glorified.
