Regional Visitation: The Place Where You Live Matters To God

My husband and I have just returned from a ministry trip to Kangaroo Island – an island off the coast of South Australia.

Kangaroo Island may seem like the ‘ends of the earth’ to many of my readers, yet it is not a distant outpost in God’s Kingdom; it is central to His purposes. And so is the community, town city or region where you live—or the one you are praying about, or seeking to influence.

Regional Visitation

One of the remarkable things about God is that He is intensely territorial.

Take the Gospels, for example.

Jesus was very deliberate in His ministry, visiting towns, villages, cities, and regions on an intentional circuit. He travelled systematically from place to place, on His mission from the Father.

We are talking about a regional visitation.

And wherever Jesus moved, there was healing, there was life, there was deliverance and the message of God’s Kingdom was preached.

  • Jesus attended a wedding in Cana, and water was turned into wine (John 2)
  • Jesus went into Nain – and a widow’s son was raised from death (Luke 7)
  • Jesus travelled by boat to the Gadarenes, and a man was freed from demonic possession
  • On the road out of Jericho, a blind man was healed (Mark 10)
  • By a well in Samaria, a woman who had lived a life of pain and shame, met Jesus, came to faith and turned evangelist (John 4)

Jesus saw Towns as Individuals

It is interesting that Jesus personified towns and cities—in other words, He spoke to them as though they were individuals with a unique will, and a unique response to God—one that had consequences.

If it concerns God how our region, town or city is responding to Him, it should concern us as Christians, and as churches.

Jesus’ instructions to the disciples in Acts 1:8 were, ‘You will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea, Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth.

Jesus was outlining a Divine conquest of territory and nations.

Why is God so concerned about PLACES?

Because places are where people live and gather. Nations, regions, cities and towns are part of God’s strategy for salvation.

The Apostle Paul expounded on this in Acts 17:26-27:

‘From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. (Acts 17:26-27)

You are not where you live by accident. You are not here today by chance, and you are not living in the locality you are in by coincidence. God appointed the place where you live and work ahead of time.

And right here, in the words of Paul, is the key… you are here so that you may find Him. So that others around you can find Him.

Your locality is part of God’s great plan of salvation. And He is intensely interested in what happens there.

Expect a Regional Move of God

‘Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…’ (Acts 3:19)

Whilst we know that God is always here, and we are always working with Him to lead people to Jesus, there are clearly times and seasons, when God moves on a region in a significant way.

We see it in the Gospels. And we can also see it in the book of Acts.

  • In Acts 2, Spirit drew people from all over Jerusalem.
  • In Acts 8, the Gospel was proclaimed in Samaria, with healing and miracles and it says, ‘There was great joy in the city!’
  • In Acts 19, we read of how Paul based in Ephesus for two years and
    • ‘all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.’ (v10)
    • ‘God did extraordinary miracles through Paul’ (v 11) and
    • ‘the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.’ (v 20)

Regional moves of God. We also see them in church history—specific towns, cities, regions impacted by moves of God, sweeping multitudes into faith in Jesus.

If we are going to get into the heart, mind and intent of Father God, then it is time to start caring about places—and the people within their borders.

It is time to intercede, to be expectant, to position ourselves in faith and declare that the King and His Kingdom are here.
It is time to anticipate a regional visitation.

This Blog post is an immediate and direct confirmation of what we are doing this very weekend. We have begun Regional Empowerment Prayer Summits throughout the United States of America. On our 6am International Prayercall, we had a caller joining us from Sydney Australia! She was the spiritual daughter of the overseer of our Prayercall, Dr. Cassandra Scott! Totally AMAZING GOD! Thank you so very much for sharing the heart of God!!!

Thanks Helen and Malcolm for spot-on prophetic ministry. Those ‘ unchurched’ or should I say ‘pre-saved’ guests who were at the Ladies Banquet on Friday 28Feb2013 were blessed beyond belief at the words spoken over their lives. And Sunday’s meeting was the same. Our ‘little island church’ is truly honoured to host you both. God bless all you do

Thanks so much, Ann. I have returned feeling as though I’ve been touched by the Presence of God you carry. Especially that praise and worship! Malcolm is still on his way home (driving) – expect to see him in a couple of hours time 🙂

Wow! when i first read this post Helen my spirit jumped. In January this year i asked God if he would visit me {Is 64:1] he said, i’m already here.I have sensed an folding of this visitation has been building and increasing over the past few months, it is now imminant.I felt some of your earlier posts have been a preperation for this visitation too.
When we first married my wife and i rented a house. After a few years renting Holy spirit spoke to us both and said its time you bought your own home.We commited this to God [Prov 16;3] and went looking. We soon found a house we loved but the bank said we couldnt afford a house. This house was later taken off the market because it did not sell.We spent the next 12 months saving a deposit, and we where given a pre approval loan amount, within a few days the house we loved a year ago came back on the market, we bought the house.18 months later the housing market boomed and our home was valued over double what we paid, this gave us huge leverage into the purchase of the house God called us into now, this could not have been done unless we followed God at the beginning. To conclude, in 1989 God gave a prophet a word for me, 3 years ago he found me and if i had not followed where God had called me i would have missed him, as the word was connected into the housing estate and the colour of our house. We have lived out of Acts 17 for years, because it really does matter where you live and when you live there.

David, God’s hand has been upon you and your wife in a wonderful way – may your testimony inspire others to trust and believe God for the home He has for them.

This is indeed God’s inpiring. I felt like you were sitting next to me and starting sharing the activity that took place recently. I recently moved or relocated from where we used to live to another place. I was wondering whether God aproved it. But that message was mine, I know God answered me. Thanks.

Margaret, may you experience a very rich sense of God’s hand upon you and His favour towards you in the place where He has planted you. It is great to hear from you 🙂

Powerful Helen, really inspiring & exciting revelation to release expectation of God moving even over our fence & in our streets!!

Your blog is such a blessing to me! Thank you! To answer your question, I am in one of the least godly places in America. God moved me around the Bay Area to intercede for places, properties, and people. He also sent me to the most “Bible-minded” city in America where my family is from to minister to them. I also get sent on many temp. work assignments that require public transportation, more ministry opportunIties. These experiences taught me that homelessness and no car serve God`s missionary, evangelism, intercession, prophetic, teaching purposes for me. I’m now back in my home church to teach “stable” (stagnant) people about the MOVES of God.

Hello, J! Thank you for leaving the note – it is such an honour to serve God in intercessory prayer, and to be one with His heart for people, places and situations.
