Revival: How to Pursue the New Move of God

Revival is in the air. Across the Church, there’s a hunger stirring.
Many long for a move of God.
Our hearts’ cry is,

“Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” (Psalm 85:6, NKJV)

And it’s not because we lack.
But because we long for this generation to encounter Jesus.

We’re already tasting the new wine of His presence.
Yet still, the Spirit calls us to return to the Source.

  • To tend the vineyard
  • To abide in Jesus again

A Vineyard in Crisis

Revival: How to Pursue the New Move of God, Text on images of grapevines with ripened red grapesIt was February 2024.
I stirred awake, shaken by a vivid flashback that took me back to a moment nearly a year earlier.

In that instant, I was standing outside the rear entrance of a historic church building. I had momentarily stepped out the back of a wedding banquet hall to get some air.

The sight of grapevines submerged in water at dusk sharply contrasted with the celebration in the building behind me.
But during those moments outside, the flooded vineyard reminded me why we almost didn’t make it.

Cyclone Gabrielle.

So, why was I here, in this spot—now, a year later?
It was unusual to have the same flashback twice. [1]
As I reflected on the vivid memory, I sensed that the Holy Spirit was speaking through it.

Later, I realized it was a prophetic picture, a metaphor.

Inside, the gathered people were celebrating, feasting, and enjoying the local wines.
Whereas outside, just out of view, the vineyard was in a crisis. [2][3]

Joy, Harvest, and the New Wine

What a glorious day it had been, so full of sunshine and joy! Everything about this family reunion was a miracle.
And it stirs me:
God doesn’t want us to have less celebration—He wants us to have more!

  • New wine is symbolic of the harvest and celebration.
  • He has promised a day of overflow, when both will be plentiful (Amos 9:13)

In the Bible, the seasonal crushing and treading of grapes was a time of great joy and festivity. [4]

So, our Father wants us to celebrate.
For it flows from harvest, and joy is the atmosphere of the Kingdom!

Revival marks you—and once you’ve encountered it, you can’t go back.
But the harvest depends on the crop’s health.
And tending the vines must come first.

There was more that the Spirit was showing me.
A deeper reason for the flashback.
The vineyard reflected the state of the wider Church.

4 Ways to Pursue Revival and a New Move of God

1: Revival Begins with Relationship

Here is the heart of this message:
We don’t pursue the move of God—we pursue the Person of Jesus.

He calls to us,

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (John 15:4, NKJV)

Jesus is reaching for our hearts.
Personally.
As communities.
And especially for prophetic leaders.

Because it’s possible to be enjoying the move of the Holy Spirit—His power, gifts, and anointing…
while ignoring the very real signs that our vineyard is under threat.
The Spirit is alerting us, “Tend the vineyard! Pay attention to the vines.”

It’s time to nurture leadership and strengthen foundations.
And most of all, to hear the whisper of Jesus’ heart:
“Beloved: Abide in Me.”

2: Answer God’s Call to Watch and Pray

The Holy Spirit’s interruption that night wasn’t random—it was a wake-up call to pray.

Because the vineyard encounter had a context.
At the time, there were reports of prophetic leaders falling across the globe.

Even as we experienced the sweetness of our own church life, we were grieving for others.

It was a weighty moment.
And one that propelled me to pray and to write.
I was about to spend the next year writing Anointed Character—a book I’ve recently published.

Right now, Jesus invites us to stand with Him “on the porch”—to be spiritually alert, and to notice what others may overlook.
And to attend to our own vineyard.

“I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me.”
(Habakkuk 2:1, NKJV)

Hear Him say, “Watch with Me.”
And pray, while serving.
We can rejoice in what is, even while interceding for what must be restored.

3: Recognize Revival in the Midst of Crisis

Storms do not overcome God’s purposes.
Even when all seems submerged, the Spirit says, “Revival is here.”
Revival speaks of life returning—of breath entering the body again.
It spreads, drawing others to turn to Christ.

Revival often begins in hidden places, during times of hardship or crisis.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… they shall not overflow you.” (Isaiah 43:2, NKJV)

The flood was the scene of loss—but it became the very image God used to speak.
God wants us to know He is working beneath the surface, even in times of crisis.
And He is a Redeemer.
Here, you find rich hope.
In the very place of trial is the start of something new.

4: Return to the Source—Tend Your Inner Life

Perhaps, you’ve been tending others:

  • Leading and laboring
  • Serving and pouring out

And somewhere along the way, you lost your own heart’s joy.
You may relate to the words of Solomon:

“They made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard, I have not kept.” (Song of Solomon 1:6b, NKJV)

To those who have been faithful but are weary:

Sometimes, there’s visible fruit, but there’s also hidden fatigue.
We serve and celebrate, but busyness can erode our foundations.
If unattended, our ministry no longer reflects our inner life.
Integrity may be compromised.

Unless…

A Revival Invitation

“There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.” (Hosea 2:15a, NIV)

There is a holy invitation in this moment.
Beyond the picture of the vineyard, there’s another scene:
Jesus, keeping vigil over the vines.
Watching, waiting, yearning.
We hear the cry of His heart:

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock…” (Revelation 3:20)

For revival flows from intimacy, not activity.
And true revival begins when we return to the source—Jesus Himself.

The Spirit is saying, “Tend your own vineyard. Come back to Me.”
