Magnetic Prayer: Prayer that Pulls on Heaven’s Resources

The Prophet Zechariah wrote, ‘Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain.’ (Zech 10:1)

In other words, when it’s time for the spring rains, pray for the downpour! Get ready—Heaven’s about to open and you are participating with what is on your Father’s agenda.

The Holy Spirit is indicating that the weight and the balance of prayer are shifting:

• from an emphasis on projected prayers that lead towards future answers
• to praying ‘now’ magnetic prayer that pulls on the resources of Heaven for what God is doing at this present time

There is an intersection, where God’s timing and your prayer meets. And your Father is saying, ‘Will you meet Me here? I have a Divine appointment with you.’

Your prayer is about to be magnetized.

Two Types of Prophetic Prayer Honor God.

Many of us are most familiar with projected prayer—prayer that leads towards a future breakthrough. This is relentless, pursuing prayer that continues in the face of time and adversity; the ‘ask, seek and knock’ type of prayer. (Luke 11:9)

As we persevere in this kind of prayer, the power of our accumulated requests before God’s throne ultimately leads to a tipping point, when His answer manifests.

This prayer is ordered by God. It’s Biblical, it honors Him, and we must continue in it. But there’s a second type of prayer, and it relates to the ‘now’ purpose of what God is doing. And the Holy Spirit is alerting us that He is tilting the balance. It’s time to place a greater focus on what Father is doing right now.

Hear your Father say, “It’s time to step out of the waiting room and into the birthing room.”

How to Position for Magnetic Prayer

You can partner with God, drawing on Heaven’s resources, at the very moment He is ordering them.

1. Begin with Intimacy

‘Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.’ (Psalm 37:4)

Magnetic prayer—’now’ prayer—starts in the place of intimacy with God. This is the place where you surrender every agenda you hold, because you want Him above all else. Worship becomes your first priority and your prayer is birthed out of encountering God.

As your heart is yielded to Jesus, He can entrust you with His agenda—what is on His heart and mind.

2. Discover what the Father is Doing

Jesus said, ‘the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing’. (John 5:19)

Here is the key: our Father is always at work. He is always up to something! It’s always His ‘now’ time. Even in apparent times of waiting, He is doing something.

And a privilege of sonship—being a son or daughter of God—is being in on the family business! Our Father wants to share what He’s up to with us, so we can participate with Him.

• Jesus always prayed and walked in the ‘kairos’ time of God—and we can too. ‘Kairos,’ is the Greek word meaning ‘due time, a fixed time, a season, or an opportune time.’
• As Jesus did, we can perceive what the Father is doing now. [2]

We have the opportunity to be like the sons of Issachar, who the Bible says, ‘understood the times and knew what Israel should do.’  (1 Chron 12:32)

Simply ask this question: ‘Father, what time is it?’

3. Believe Answers from Heaven are Being Released as You Pray

The angel Gabriel said to Daniel, ‘As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.’ (Dan 9:23)

‘Daniel, at the moment you prayed, God spoke the word and sent me on my way.’ Even though it took time for God’s messenger to show up, Daniel’s prayer was being fruitful and active in real-time—‘now’ time. [3]

Psalm 103 verses 19 and 20 say, ‘The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.’

Your prayer is magnetized! You are partnering with God to simultaneously pull on what He is releasing—Heaven’s resources into the earth realm.

• See the Holy Spirit, with His anointing and power being released as you pray (Acts 4:23-31)
• See favor as a resource being released from the throne of Heaven. (Neh 1:11)
• Perceive angels being released in answer to your prayer. (Acts 12:1-19)
• See natural conditions bowing in obedience to God’s ‘now’ will as you pray. (1 Kings 18:40-46) [4]

As you pray, believe that something is being released ‘now’. This is the prayer of faith. This is magnetic prayer; prayer that brings Heaven to earth.

Notes: For Deeper Reflection

[1] Magnetic:

Interestingly, the Holy Spirit sometimes speaks to me through scientific metaphors and illustrations (physics). For example I talk about momentum here and I talk about fusion here and the tipping point here.

I discovered while researching this, that a magnet is created when a strong external magnetic force is applied to a metal object that is capable of being magnetized. Groups (or domains) of atoms and electrons within that object are pulled into alignment. This alignment transforms the object so that it becomes a magnet itself.

This is a picture of power being released through alignment! When you have a heart and will that is surrendered to God, you are easily pulled into alignment with Him. You want what He wants. Your desire is to participate in what He is doing. And your Spirit-led yielded prayer releases God’s power.

[2] Time

In the New Testament, there are two main Greek words used for time. ‘Chronos’ refers to ‘clock time’ or ‘calendar time.’ It is the word used for general time. A second Greek word for time is ‘kairos,’ meaning ‘due time, a fixed time, a season, or an opportune time.’ VINE, M.A. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words.  1985. • An example of ‘chronos’ is in Matt 2:7. ‘Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time (chronos) the star had appeared.’
• An example of ‘kairos’ is in Gal 6:9. ‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time (kairos) we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’ (See also 2 Cor 6:1-2)
• Pregnancy is a great example of the two types of time. Approximately 9 months of ‘chronos’ time pass. But the moment comes when it is time to give birth. That moment is ‘kairos’—the due time.
