‘Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes…’ (Is 54:2)
When it comes to buildings, there are two types of upgrades. One is the renovation of existing rooms. No new space is being created—the old space is being improved and renewed.
However, there is another kind of upgrade.
A building extension requires additional work, equipment and materials. In particular, new foundations need to be set in place.
It’s Time to Prepare new Foundations
What is God doing right now in your life, relationships, work and ministry?
What are you anticipating?
In the book of Ezra, we learn that God stirred the heart of King Cyrus of Persia to provide for the rebuilding of God’s temple. It was God’s ordained time for upgrade and restoration. Ezra tells us that the people gathered and with great enthusiasm commenced work on the temple, completing the foundations. (Ezra 3:7-13)
New Foundations are a Sign
When you see a foundation, you know that it is there in expectation of something being built.
And I believe God is speaking to you today about prophetic expectation.
It is time to stir up anticipation, and to ask the question, ‘What is the word of God to me? And what is my expectation?’
And then—respond accordingly.
We prepare for what we expect.
- When a couple is expecting a baby, they prepare the nursery.
- If we expect a shower of rain, we may carry an umbrella with us.
It is time for audacious faith. It is time to prepare according to bold expectations.
Here is the evidence that you are expecting something new from God: What are you making room for? What are the foundations that you are laying and extending out today?
A Critical Juncture at the Foundation Stage
In Ezra 3:11-13, we read that when the foundation was completed, there was a great celebration and shouts of praise. However many of the older priests, leaders and people who had known the first temple wept and cried aloud in grief.
When God is doing a new thing, there will always be those of us who can remember how things used to be.
While we are celebrating the beginnings of what is being built, we need to acknowledge that two things are happening at once. On one hand, we are celebrating the new things God is doing. And on the other, we are releasing the dreams and achievements of the past.
Sometimes we can fiercely hold onto loyalty to past dreams, past prophecies, past moves of God, both for our own lives, our own families, and for our church and miss what God is doing now.
I don’t want to be someone who holds back from entering into the new move of God because I am attached to the past. Isaiah 42:9 says, ‘See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.’
Perhaps God is speaking to you today, and saying,
‘It’s time to release unfulfilled expectations of the past into My care. Allow Me to breathe new things into your heart and give you a new word for this new season.’
It’s time for an upgrade.
