One year ago, I was faced with a challenging opportunity. I asked one of my prayer partners, ‘Could you pray over the next few days and see if you get any prophetic insights for me personally?’

She replied with some prophetic encouragement and added a photo, saying, ‘I felt to send you this photo that I took yesterday.’

It was of Maruia Falls; a waterfall in southern New Zealand.

Having lived in and travelled throughout New Zealand, I was surprised that I had never heard of this place before—and so I Googled it. At the top of the search results was a YouTube clip of a canoeist going vertically down the 10-metre-high waterfall.

I was amazed as I watched the canoeist aimed his canoe directly at the drop. The canoe went over the waterfall and disappeared into the foam. Moments later, he popped up in the river just past the base of the waterfall—unscathed and still afloat, perfectly positioned to continue his journey downriver.

When I saw that, I cried ‘YES! Father, that is exactly how I feel right now about what I am facing and what You are doing in my life!’

One hour later, I was working at my computer, when looked up and noticed my wall calendar was still set to the previous month, January. So I took it down and turned the page to February. It was a photo of a canoeist going vertically down a waterfall.

Surprisingly, the opportunity I was praying about at that time did not eventuate. But one year to the date of that calendar picture—on the first of this month—my husband and I found ourselves in an unforeseen situation.

Both of us were cut off from secure income at the same time. Mine was due to launching a brand new ministry—and my husband’s situation was due to a work contract unexpectedly being cut short.

I remembered the canoeist and the waterfall.

What to do before your prophecy is fulfilled and prayer answered

Have you ever been in a place where following the will of God has led you past a point of no return? You cannot turn back, and you find yourself in a situation where you need a miracle.

As you lead a life of faith, you will come to ‘the drop.’ It’s the place where there is a GAP between your own resources, your own ability, and what lies ahead.

It’s a waterfall moment.

Like the canoeist, you are committed, and cannot turn back.

Think of Moses and the Israelites, pursued by the Egyptians, with an impassable Red Sea in front of them. Imagine David, standing in front of Goliath, slingshot in hand. Paul and Silas, facing imprisonment in Philippi—the very place God had called them to. [1]

As it has often been said, faith could be spelled R-I-S-K.

You will never have this opportunity again

In the midst of the trial, before the prophecy is fulfilled and your prayers for deliverance are answered—on your way down the waterfall—you have a unique opportunity.

  • You can praise God before the miracle is manifested
  • You can worship in the midst of the mystery.

And you can proclaim—my God, you are my Deliverer! You are my Healer, my Provider. You are Faithful and True!

There is another day, another side

We knew there was a brief window of time before our own miracle came into view. It was an opportunity that we could have no other time—to praise God with no answer in sight!

And now, we are just beginning to see our miracle unfold.

From our waterfall to yours…

P.S. Never think that your prophetic insight is too simple to share, or hold back because you don’t fully understand what you are seeing or sensing. Offer it humbly, but willingly—it could be the very message God will use as He brings a miracle to pass.

  1. Hi, Helen. I’m exactly in the season of waterfall. God spoke to me about my calling several years ago, but I can’t help feeling that the spiritual flow has been kind of stagnant for a few months though it was quite powerful before. I still believe that God’s working behind scenes, and your blog encouraged me and strengthen my faith further. So thank you and bless you!

  2. Dear Helen,
Thank you for sharing your story. I am going through almost the same scenario right now. I had two jobs, one being a finance administrator in a private company and another an educational facilitator. My facilitator contract ended this year January and my other job has ups and downs. Sometimes I get paid 8-12 days after month end or sometimes no pay at all. I am waiting for a chance of starting my own business but is taking long. Iam an intercessor waiting on prophecy. I have accepted it in my heart that no matter what happens and how long it takes I shall wait in prayer and praise.

Thank you for sharing your story, it has given me hope and courage. I love reading your blogs. God bless you!

    1. Hi Zoleka, it’s been a couple of weeks since this post, my husband has a new job and I’ve had some funds come into the new ministry too. I praise God for His provision! I also pray for your breakthrough – may your job situation become stable, in Jesus’ Name

  3. Thank you so much for your post ,it has confirmed what I should be doing in my current situation.I too have gone past the point of no return , by Gods grace I have obeyed God and left a polygamous marriage ( Africa)and now I Am facing the Red Sea of provision.i have never had a proper income before , I have always been provided for by my ex husband .so I packed my bags and children and left my marriage home and renting a small place of which I have received an eviction letter because I haven’t been able to pay the rent .my life from the outside is very much in shambles and there is no way out .
All I have are Gods promises and I am holding onto them for dear life.
It’s also a transformation issue on my part as God dealt with the Israelites so he is dealing with me.
And the more I cry out to. God for my situation I sense He is teaching me to trust Him, love Him , praise Him , worship Him no matter the situation good or bad , evicted or not evicted , hungry or full , in health or illness I shall praise My God always and forever

  4. Another wonderful testimony Helen. Thanks so much for sharing it as it is a good reminder for me to praise God as I continue to wait…… on God for His answer to a particular situation.

  5. Hi Helen. My issue is I have realized recently how much personal prophecy I have had in the way of dreams and promptings I have just been too dull or stubborn to recognize over the years so I have this major guilt and fear of failure. There has been some encouragement too, and something major about to come to pass God has been showing me over the past couple of years. It’s just hard to cope with the failures, so much that it makes the prophetic ministry feel very difficult and painful. I am really feeling an intense sense of failure over my life at the moment but realize it’s likely majorly due to satan getting in just before the miracle that is going to happen.

I have been in a season where I am in that “where do I go!?!” mode with the Lord. Trying things that just are not working anymore!! I can’t go back! In church today as the service was going, I grabbed my colored pencils and started drawing a waterfall. It looked so peaceful and intense. So full of the Spirit!!! And then I decided ok I need to do something! Fast for 7 days! Acceleration! And so I went to the grocery store but still feeling like I was moving in an old season…. so I was going through my emails when I stumbled upon this!!

I’m amazed. In shock- in awe. The last visions I had of myself were jumping off a waterfall as a little girl following Jesus and feeling so full of life and strong and happy and excited with butterflies in my tummy!!!

Wow. Thank you- you have reminded me of where I am going. No turning back!! Only forward!!! Carving a path. And I get to praise Him until I see my miracles and deliverance come! And then praise Him when I see them!! ?

    Thank you sincerely,
Your prophetic words have always been on point with my seasons ever since I started following you, you are a gift from God and I am blessed to receive from you.

    With love,

    1. Wow Amanda, I love it when the Holy Spirit moves like that! I pray you are blessed and encouraged and find His new, anointed pathways for your life.
I love this from Rom 8, MSG version: ‘This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” (Rom 8:15 MSG) <3
