Praise: An Unexpected New Sound Of Praise From Heaven

God is stirring and awakening praise again!

If life has been busy for you lately, or you simply yearn for God in this Christmas season, receive this promise from Psalm 40:

God is giving you fresh hope and lifting you!
He is setting your feet on solid ground, and steadying you as you walk along.

He is giving you a new song—a hymn of praise to God.
Now, many will see what he has done and be amazed.

People will trust the Lord at the sound of your praise.” (Based on Psalm 40:1-3 )

An Angel Appears

Hear a new sound of praise from Heaven text on black imageA familiar story shows us how praise can visit ordinary people—and be heard in unlikely places.

In Luke 2, shepherds are watching over a flock of sheep, when God’s glory suddenly shines around them.
And a radiant angel appears with an unexpected declaration: “Tonight, a savior has been born!”

In the next moment, they see a multitude of angels.
And as far as their eyes can see, angels reach from one horizon to another!

“…suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:13-14, NKJV)

The Praise of Angels

I always imagined the angels singing in a heavenly choir, because that was the tradition we were taught.

We grew up with the song, “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing”, and our children sang it in church.

Then last year, my mum said, “The Bible doesn’t say that the angels sang the praise. That’s just a tradition!”
And her words interrupted my longstanding story!

A New Sound of Praise

Sometimes, the Holy Spirit speaks through the echoes of a past conversation because he has something new to say to us through it.

I believe God is tuning our ears to hear a new sound of praise from heaven.
He is interrupting our familiar narrative and revealing His glory.

So that we hear the praise of heaven and realize that it is unlike anything we imagined.
And it is far greater than you dreamed—it is thunderous.
It is a praise that is worthy of our King.

The Mystery of the Angels’ Praise

This week, I turned to Revelation chapter 5, to compare another example of angels praising in Heaven. “Did they sing?” I wondered.

Certainly, the context is a song, as the elders have harps. But when it comes to the angels, the original Greek does not say that they sang. Only that they voiced. [1]
So—they could have sung.
And they could have spoken loudly; the Bible leaves the mystery open.

The Voice of a Great Multitude

Yet another passage gives us a clue into the sound of praise in heaven.

“And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Rev 19:6, NKJV).

And I believe the Holy Spirit is pointing to this right now.
He is inviting us into mystery and wonder.

God is preparing us to hear a new sound—a mighty sound from heaven.
Once more he is singing over the earth, and in Heaven, there is a sound of mighty waters.
The Lord of all is speaking and Jesus is His name (Rev 1:15).

God is Visiting You

It is no longer “business as usual”, for God is interrupting our ordinary, with His glory. He is giving us a fresh revelation of our Savior, Jesus!

  • Just as the shepherds outside Bethlehem turned aside—and raced to view the newborn child
  • And as the shepherd Moses, in another era, turned aside to see the glory of God

Perhaps, you think your assignment is humble, but God is visiting you.
As He did with the shepherds, God will display His glory in you, even in the dark and hidden places.

The Praise of Shepherds

Luke tells us,
“The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.” (Luke 2:20 NLT)

So, the angels returned to Heaven, but the praise was picked up on earth. And in the hours that followed, praise continued to ring out in the night air.
For the shepherds could not contain their joy.

Your Praise Matters

The Lord wants you to know, that your praise matters, and that your praise is heard in heaven.

  • Above all, see Jesus—once a babe, and now a risen king
  • Be reminded that God is far above the affairs of the world and He is working to His timetable

God is putting a new song in your mouth, and praise on your lips. He is restoring awe, grace, and joy this Christmas season.
And capturing our attention with His Majesty.

  1. Goodmorning Helen from South Africa. Oh , you are definite about the new day or season l feel in the atmosphere. I feel like praising God to the mountain top for He is good and His mercy endures forever. I felt like l was fainting with the heavy world compressing the very core of my being. I survived in the word that says ” But those who trust in the Lord, they shall soar up high like eagles, run buy never get weary and walk and never stopped.” All of a sudden , l Judy felt God is really doing a new thing and l perceive it, the captives are being set free, the sick are getting healed, different types of ministries are
effective all around the world. A spirit of ease is approaching us all. Thank you sister Helen in Christ, we love you for the great work you have done to us all. God bless your every sphere.

  2. Hi Helen,
    Thank you – a wonderful word…
I really appreciated the following phrase: ‘It is no longer “business as usual”, for God is interrupting our ordinary, with His glory’… It has been some time since I began to pick up my guitar and sing for more than a practice for leading worship. In recent weeks, I have been finding the joy of singing and worshipping returning with my guitar. Prior to this, the Lord has been reminding me of many of the songs which had been my diet coming into Christendom.
What you have articulated is awesome. That sense of Heaven not simply singing but ‘voicing’ like the sound of a great waters is one amazing picture. I am so grateful for your reflections…
Thank you for all you have shared in 2023… May the Lord increase your sound into 2024!
    God bless,
    Sashi

    1. Thank you Sashi, i’m glad to hear of that guitar coming out. May praise and worship flow! Malcolm has a beautiful acoustic guitar it’s a joy to hear it.
