Prophetic worship is firstly about encountering God and honoring Him.
It also has some powerful, life-changing benefits for those who are participating.

But firstly, what makes prophetic worship prophetic? “Prophetic” simply means that the things in God’s heart—His thoughts, intent, and purposes—are being conveyed.

Prophetic Worship Encounter“Prophetic” also means that Father’s purpose is being carried out in the worship environment. Jesus said of His miracles and works, ‘the Son can only do as He sees the Father doing.’ (John 5:19)

During prophetic worship, those of us who are leading worship are engaged with the Holy Spirit.

Our desire should always be to “see what Father is doing and do that—to hear what Father is saying, and say that.”

As we carry out what is on God’s heart to do in the “now” moment of worship, He touches and transforms people.

3 Powerful Benefits of Prophetic Worship

Here are 3 benefits of prophetic worship, that can transform your life, and the lives of those you lead in worship:

1. You will Encounter God

The highest purpose of worship is communion. God created us for a face-to-face relationship with Him.

A traditional view of worship is that it is a one-way giving of our love to God. However, prophetic worship is “two-way”. Heaven is touching earth. During prophetic worship, we are encountering God.

During prophetic worship, as your heart is raised in adoration towards Him, God is touching you. You hear His voicethe whispers of the Spirit to your heart.

You catch a glimpse of Who Jesus is, and Father’s purpose for your life—and it transforms you. As a result, you grow in intimacy with Him.

2. God’s Power Impacts You—with Healing, Impartation, and Freedom

As you lift your heart in love and worship to God, you are more open towards Him than at any other time.

While you worship, God is releasing something into your life. An impartation is taking place. That could be a fresh infilling of His Spirit. Perhaps God is releasing an attribute of His nature—such as faith, courage, strength, or hope.

You discover it is on God’s agenda to release His power into your life, to heal and set you free.

The Bible says, “God sent His word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20). During prophetic worship, a ‘now’ word of healing can come from the throne of God.

As David played on his lyre to Saul, the demonic oppression that was on Saul lifted, because of the anointing on David’s music.

During Spirit-led, Spirit-breathed worship, God releases His power. And you can expect miracles and healing to break out in the atmosphere of prophetic worship, touching your life and others around you.

3. You will Discover a Powerful Weapon of Breakthrough

King Jehoshaphat sent the musicians ahead of his army to praise and worship God—and the power of God destroyed the enemy! (2 Chron 20)

Prophetic praise celebrates the fulfillment of God’s promises before they are manifested in the natural realm. It is also the Spirit-led proclamation of who God is, declaring His attributes, greatness, and power.

This makes it a powerful weapon of spiritual warfare.

And while we know that an open Heaven is our inheritance, we also know that there are times we need to contend for what belongs to us.

During the times you need to contend for the atmosphere around your life and over those you lead, turn to prophetic praise and worship. As you do, you enter the realm of breakthrough.

  1. Thank you Helen,
Many people give adoration to the worshiper, the form of worship, and or the manifestations but not God. This is truly a special message. Thank you for reminding me of the vitality of worship, and the communion that should take place between God and I. I have been longing to hear, see, feel and say what is on the heart of my King. Learning that worship connects you to the heart of God is tremendous yet refreshing!!!

  2. Helen,
Love your blog and your insights. I just saw you are going to be in Chicago in September. Is the meeting open to the public? I would love to get the details and meet you in person!

    1. Hi Kim,
Thank you for asking! I would love to meet you too.
Our itinerary isn’t finalised yet, but once I have something specific I will let everyone know via social media.
Or if you would like me to let you know by email I can do that – just let me know by responding. (I believe your email is privately on the comment so you don’t need to give me it again)

  3. Dear Helen,
Thank you for that insightful article. I would love to get a breakthrough and get a new job.
I don`t know what and how to pray anymore. I just hope Jesus helps me to find something where people recognize my value and let me do what I can and what God wants me to. I am fairly desperate..
    Best wishes

    1. Hi Conny, yes I pray that too.
I remember having trouble getting a job for a long time, but once God moved, it was very quickly and beyond what I could have dreamed! I pray the same for you.

    2. Hi Conny,
I am in the same situation as you–I am waiting for revelation and breakthrough in the job arena which can be quite frustrating when it seems like nothing is happening. I just wanted to share how I respond and hope it is helpful for you.

A few years ago I was at a conference where I had the opportunity to receive personal prophetic ministry. One of the prophetic insights spoken over me was the minister’s vision of seeing me twirling and dancing before Jesus’ throne and how that pleased the Father seeing my freedom in worship before Him. I carry that insight with me every time I enter into prayer…..Father, I come into your presence with singing and dancing and praise….and let my worship and remembrance of how full my heart was at that point in time lift my heart in prayer. I enter into worship in my mind.

We can go to a conference or have other times when we are on the mountaintop, but then we have to go down into the valley, and it can be really tough. Those prophetic insights we receive are given so we can walk successfully through the valley. It is our manna. Personally, I hold onto those moments for dear life and let that feed my spirit while I am waiting on Him to move on my behalf. It is like the stones of remembrance the Lord continually had His people building–we need to remember and hold tight to what He has already done on our behalf.

Secondly, another scripture I like to restate back to the Lord when I wrap up my prayer is “thank you for what you’ve done, what you’re doing, and what you are going to do. You will do infinitely more than I can ask or imagine, to you be all glory, honor, and praise.” Even when it doesn’t look like Jesus is doing anything, I pray with the faith of knowing He is moving on my behalf, I just can’t see it yet. Think about when Elijah prayed for rain. Each time he prayed he asked, “do you see anything yet?” He did that seven times before finally a tiny cloud appeared and then it began to pour!

Conny, your breakthrough is coming! Rise above your situation by singing and dancing in your heart with uplifted hands in the rain of His goodness. Right now He is working on your behalf, you have infinite value to Him, and He will help you get to a place where you will shine. Watch and wait for it!

  4. Mandisa Ntlabati

Dear Helen. I thrive on praise and worship. My problem is that I’m very slow to catch up with the Holy Spirit. I know that I have to focus in order to receive that impatation, but most times I fail to feel the Holy Spirit touching me. Is there something that I do wrong?
Secondly, how does one receive the gift of speaking in toungues. I spend hours on end praying hoping to connect, but I always hear myself.
I am concerned because I used to feel His touch even when just praying at home or driving. How can I rekindle the connection?

    1. Hi Mandisa,
I don’t believe you are doing anything wrong.
The key of receiving is receiving by faith – thank Him for what He has given you, for touching you, and for the gift of His Spirit, and that thanksgiving will open your heart to receive the fullness. He loves you and has an abundance for you!

    2. Hi Mandisa,
Something I learned early on in my faith walk is that when we are first experiencing Him, He will give us more tangible experiences to build our faith. The further we get down the road, however, he expects us to walk by faith, not sight. When we drink up those touches and His presence, the lack of feeling that can be hard. I love feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is so gentle that if you do not quiet yourself it can be quite difficult to feel His presence. I like to think of the scripture, Acts 17:28, “For in him we live and move and have our being.” Every time we breathe, we are breathing in His presence. I like to quiet myself and ask Holy Spirit to come, and visualize Him filling me with His fullness with every breath I take. I receive His fullness by faith, and as He saturates my being, I am ready for His use to pour out.

I also struggled with receiving the gift of tongues. The Lord quickened that desire and the enemy fought hard to keep it from me. “If you believe in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7 I knew the Lord wanted me to have this gift, and this verse helped me believe I already had it, it just needed to be released by faith. After a discussion with my pastor about my desire for this gift and not receiving, he preached a sermon the following Sunday on Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for, and assurance about what we don’t see.” That really revved my faith that He already gave me the gift, which was the key to breakthrough to see it manifest.

Blessings to you Mandisa. I hope these insights are helpful to you and that you are immersed in the fullness of His presence.

  5. Dear Helen and dear Kim,
thank you for your prayers and encouragement. You do not know how valuable they are for me.
I know what Jesus can do because of many experiences let alone the flat that I got, and I am grateful, but you know how tense a job problem can make your whole life and it is certainly not easy to keep my self-esteem at a desirable level. On top of it, I have no prophetic Christians near me who I could trust with this. So thank you very much for your answers!
    Lots of Love
