9 Bible Promises About Your Sleep, Dreams and Night Hours

Bible Promises for Your DreamsImagine what it would be like to approach your sleep with a positive sense of anticipation.

  • You look forward to enjoying God’s Presence in the night hours
  • You feel safe, at peace, and secure
  • You believe that God will impart to you Divine blueprints, strategies and creative ideas as you sleep
  • You anticipate encountering the Holy Spirit through prophetic dreams and songs in the night
  • You know that you will wake up rested to begin your new day with God

This is your inheritance.

However, I frequently hear from readers who are experiencing trouble with bad dreams, demonic encounters in dreams, or nightmares. I understand a little about this as for many years, I personally struggled with the same problems. I thank God for the freedom I have in my dreams now.

This week and next, I will be sharing some tips to help you, and those you love, to enter into your God-given inheritance of sweet sleep.

9 Bible Promises About Your Dreams and Sleep

Sweet Sleep is Your Inheritance

There are many promises in Scripture covering the night and night hours! God cares for you in your nighttime as much as He is interested in your life by day.

The promise of your Father is:

1. ‘When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.’ (Prov 3:24)

This is our inheritance as Christians and children of God. We are to be blessed in our dreams and in our sleep.

2. ‘In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.’ (Ps 127:2)

Even when awake in the night hours, our reflections can be full of God’s grace:

3. ‘On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.’ (Ps 63:6-7)

4. ‘By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.’ (Ps 42:8)

It is also our inheritance to feel safe at night. Our loving Father is the source of our security:

5. ‘In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.’ (Ps 4:8)

6. ‘You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.’ (Ps 91:5-6)

Expect God to Speak and Minister to you in Your Sleep and Dreams

The heart of our Father is to lead us as much by night as during the day:

7. ‘He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night.’ (Ps 78:14)

Throughout the Bible, God gave instructions and prophetic insights to His people in dreams. In the New Testament, this is a ministry of the Spirit available to all God’s people:

8. ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.’ (Acts 2:17)

We can expect to receive the counsel and instruction of the Spirit in the night hours.

9. ‘I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.’ (Ps 16:7)

Use Scripture for Breakthrough in the area of Dreams

Some ways you can use Scriptural promises concerning your sleep and dreams are:

  • Meditate on God’s promises for your sleep and night hours
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight particular promises that He is ministering to you personally
  • Use insights from the Bible to confess, pray and declare what God has promised you concerning your sleep

The Word of God is our standard, and we should not put up with anything less than the fullness of what God has available for us and our families.

In addition to promises, the Bible also contains the example of many of God’s people who encountered Him in dreams, receiving impartation, guidance, instruction and prophetic revelation.

This is the heart and purpose of God for your life.

I trust that reading these Bible promises about the night hours have touched and blessed you as much as they have for me this week as I have looked them up. In an upcoming post, I will share some specific tips concerning what you can do when you have disturbing, emotionally painful, or demonic dreams.

  1. Thank you for your article. I will memorize these verses.

I have the spiritual gift of discernment for several years. Not only am I sensitive around atmospheres and people, but also around specific objects. Sometimes it is difficult for me to sleep with specific household items in my room (books, movies, specific clothes, and shoes). Sometimes the spirit of witchcraft attached to these items even though they are not outwardly demonic or look like they are tied to the occult (e.g, socks with hearts on the outside that were purchased from Walmart, regular gym shoes). After I pray and ask The Lord for wisdom and remove the objects from my bedroom I feel a sense of peace and removed demonic presence from the room. This is occuring frequently. Praise The Lord He provides me comfort during these episodes.

I am the only person at my church, to my knowledge, with this gift. Is this something other people with the gift of discernment have experienced? Have you experienced attacks from demonic spirits attached to common day objects? Have you come accross scripture that relate to this?

    1. Hi Tara,
I’m sorry to hear of the trials you have been experiencing with regard to your room at night. I pray that you find the verses empowering.
God’s purpose for you is to have peace at night and complete confidence in His Presence with you.
I don’t believe that you should have to go through a process of removing things from your room to have peace at night.
When I teach on the gift of discernment, I share that the Biblical guideline for all gifts of revelation (such as prophecy, discernment and intercession) is accountability – that is, submitting insights that we receive to Godly and wise leadership around our lives. This helps us weigh up what is truly of the Holy Spirit (1 Thess 5:19-22) I encourage you to go through that process and to allow your perspective to be challenged sometimes – it will help you grow and sharpen your gift. A big test of hearing from God is 1. is it Biblical and 2. does it bear Godly fruit. Not having peace to sleep until you’ve removed ordinary items from your room, and believing those objects have demonic attachments doesn’t fit those two criteria. I encourage you to pray over this some more and also to find a leader to run insights past. Even when a leader is not gifted as we are, their Biblical insight and wisdom will help us pick up on how what we are receiving from God fits inside those two most important criteria I mention.
Hope that helps, praying for your peace, Tara.

  2. Wow, dreams are amazing ways to walk with God…I have had many amazing treasured dreams. Thanks for the re-inspiration about dreams.

  3. Hi Helen, it has been awhile since I’ve taken time to read one of your emails, but I’m gratefully I did tonight. Thank you for this truth email. Reading this email gave me a dose of love from the Father and our Lord Jesus. I cried and cried while reading this, and became filled with hope and truth that Jesus does love me. And for the first time I don’t feel like an orphan anymore, and I know I’m not. Please keep me and my family in prayer. Our newborn is in the nicu and her oxygen levels were low at birth, she needs her oxygen to circulate more in her lungs and for her blood vessels to open up and relax. The diagnosis is pulmonary hypertension. Thank you again. God bless you.

    1. Hi Brittany, just read this and prayed for your little one and your family, will also share with our team for prayer. You are beloved, Father has you all in the palm of His hand.

      1. Thank you for your prayers Helen, and the team. The baby is getting better everyday so that should encourage me to keep the faith. 🙂 we need her oxygen levels to be in the mid 90s to late 90s and stay that way.

        1. Good news Brittany, may she continue to become stronger and oxygen levels stabilize. May you be richly blessed as a family and grow in faith and may a powerful testimony of God’s goodness emerge from this time to touch many others.

          1. Amen! Thank you Helen! More good news she came home July 28th and has been doing great! God is more than good! 🙂

  4. Baldwin Francis

    Dear Helen,
Thank you for your news letters they are a great blessing.
I had a vision on Easter Sunday, it lasted over 5 minutes, I was awake and saw a bed of roses and clear water running over it, it was there if I closed my eyes or opened it. can you interpret it.
God speaks to me in dreams and visions and words of wisdom and knowledge.

    1. Thanks for the question, Baldwin. (What an amazing vision!) We have a policy as a ministry not to do any dream interpretation or prophesying online. But I do encourage you to think about the elements in the vision, and the timing… for example having the vision on Easter Sunday places the context of your vision in resurrection. Clear running water in the Bible can be salvation, healing or the Holy Spirit (Ezek 47 river), also think about whether roses (in general) or the particular ones you saw, mean something to you personally. I love that there was a bed of roses, not cut flowers, but alive and growing. Generally in our culture, roses are symbolic of love.

  5. Hi Helen. I appreciate your article on dreams. My dreams are really mixed up at the moment. I have so many over the last 3 years and I know no one who understands or can interpret them where I am. I have no fellowship with anyone that understands dreams too. And I have had some awful demonic and soulish dreams of recent. I am alone in this as my husband doesn’t understand and is not close to God.

    1. Hi Marie, I hope the scriptures I’ve shared in this article are an encouragement for you. Next week I will write some thoughts on how to respond to the bad dreams…believing with you for peace at night, sweet dreams and breakthrough.

  6. Hi Helen,
Thankyou for this article! God has used enliven blog to give me timely encouragement in my life many times. I just woke up from a bad dream with a strong evil demonic presence in it. It hasn’t happened in a while and I woke up afraid. Decided to read enliven blog because I couldn’t sleep and this was the first blog post I saw on the page!!!Praise God, He helps me. So thankyou, and looking forward to the next one about what to do when you have a demonic dream. I have a question: Can God teach you from what happened in a evil dream? (My dream was related to something I was struggling with in real life to do with ministry).
    Thanks and God bless!

    1. Hi Steph, I do believe God can use and redeem every dream. I trust the new blog article is an encouragement to you!

      1. Hi Helen

I hope I am doing this correctly.

Your article excited me, finally someone who knows and understands with first hand experience. I have been having demonic attacks nearly every night for nearly 11yrs. In this time I have learnt to walk in the authority Jesus has given us kids and its only small things that happen, aimed at keeping me awake or waking me up.

I feel its time it is done with! No more. I shall approach our pastors with my darling husband and submit to their guidance to achieve full deliverance. Its a new church and I have learnt to be nervous of discussing this issue due to past ‘judgements’ made upon me but I trust our Lord will present the right person to point or help me on the way.

I ask dear sister if Holy Spirit prompts you to pray for me, do so with gusto! 🙂

Thank you for sharing and imparting wisdom, insight, knowledge etc.. you have gained and experienced to us all to benefit in our own lives. Bless you.

        Your sister in Christ ox

        1. Hi Angie, I sure do pray for you. May this time with your church and leaders be your ‘safe harbour’ to become free, and more of who you are called to be.
My healing came through two fronts… one was receiving prayer ministry for freedom, and the other was growing in faith, the Word and the revelation of the Fatherhood of God.
May you receive fully His abounding grace!
