The (Number One) Key to Praying with Faith

One day I was praying and asked God, ‘teach me about faith.’ Instantly a picture came to my mind’s eye.

I saw a little boy standing in front of a shop window—it was a bakery, or candy store, and the window was filled with row upon row of good things to eat.

As I looked at this child, I knew that he had one small coin in his back pocket. I could feel the strength of his desire for the delicious food in the shop window, and the limitation that one small coin represented.

Immediately the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, ‘Same boy, same amount of money in his pocket, but his father owns the store.’ Suddenly my perspective changed. It was no longer about how much money the boy had, or how much pocket money he earned.

He could go behind the counter, get up on his Daddy’s knees, and ask for whatever he wanted. He had access to everything in that store through relationship.

Jesus taught us to pray by beginning with the words, ‘Our Father’ (Matt 6:9).

  • Your relationship with God as your Father is the starting point for prayer that releases Heaven on earth and enables God’s will to be accomplished.

Knowing your Father’s Attitude is a Key to Faith

‘Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!’ (Matt 7:9-11)

The key to praying with faith is not only knowing that God is your Father. It is also having the understanding of your Father’s attitude towards you.

  • God’s attitude is His stance, manner and expression
  • It is how He feels about, responds and acts towards you

When you catch a hold of your Father’s attitude towards you—when you realize that He is smiling at you and looking at you with love and approval—then you can have security and boldness as you approach His throne.

It’s not about your worthiness. It’s not about being good enough or what you have earned. It’s not about what you have done.

It’s all about what Jesus has done.

This is the life Jesus paid the price for: Heaven is open and you can enter boldly!

As the writer to the Hebrews puts it, you ‘have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus’ (Heb 10:19).

The Holy Spirit is Bringing Healing to You

Paul wrote, ‘For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Rom 8:14-15)

There are times when we recognize that our experience of God is less than what it could be. Our hearts need to come into alignment with God’s Word.

Today, if you need a greater revelation of God’s Fatherhood, receive the ministry and touch of the Holy Spirit. He is bringing healing to your heart.

You don’t have to be like the little boy standing outside the shop window. When your Father is in the picture, everything changes. It changes the way you pray, it changes the way you think, speaks and act. Your Father owns the store and you are His beloved child.

This is the key to praying with faith.

  1. We are serving a living God,I’m not feeling happy at work all because of unsatisfied salary and I have talk to my manager’s but still no change now I have the keys.

    • Hi Jerry, I agree with you in prayer for the breakthrough in your workplace and salary and for God’s favour at work, may there be some visible progress in this area, in Jesus’ Name.

    • Hi Helen, thank you, thank you, thank you for your encouragement and teachings across social media. May God continue to use you for His glory. This morning as I was travelling in my vehicle I started praying for a friend’s business that God could multiply not just her sales but at the company where my husband is employed. I took God on His Word by quoting scripture to Him and I also quoted Isaiah 55:11 “My word will not return void………….” I popped in at my husbands office after 2pm while standing there waiting on him for nearly 40mins to arrive from his call out his staff had 7 sales yes 7 sales in 40 mins and 8 sales between 8am until 1pm as per the admin lady. My response to her was God will not see the righteous forsaken nor His seed begging for bread as prayer move mountains. May you be blessed. Shalom

    • Your blessing us with something that we never thought how to understand and do it thank for having time to teach us ,may God continually give u his mighty spirit to help weak people like us by strengthening our faith

  2. Sometimes I feel just like that little child with my nose pushed up against the candy store window. I’ve often felt like the abandoned child even though my parents provided for me. My mom is 94 and in a nursing home…she has dementia. She and I did not always get along; however, now we do. It’s because of my loving attitude toward her. I do not hold the past against her. Her name is Elinore. Please pray for her.
It was such a warm feeling when I read about the child on the father’s knee. I could picture myself sitting on Jesus’ knee feeling warm and loved.

    • Beautiful, Patricia. Praying your Mom feels the loving arms of Father God around her at this time…and you too.

  3. Dear Helen,

last 20 years i have been asking for a job.. till today i received nothing.. now i am too old to work..
i have seen and heard many promises.. but nothing happened. but early this morning i had a dream, we were getting ready to walk around my old work place like the jerico wall.. the weather was so cold and the rain drops were shaped like big pearls..and we were dressed in jewish costumes.. am getting a job? is my jerico wall coming down?

  4. Good morning Helen thank you for sharing the nuggets of faith. It was confirmation for me that we as believers have to change our perspective. As far as when we pray we have to know in our hearts that it is already done.

    • Hi Tracey, good evening from Australia! I’m just about to check out for the night, but saw your great comment. I say amen to that!

  5. good day

thank you for sharing with me, i believe God with a miracle on my finances i dont have money to pay rent and i have been telling stories to people i stay with.

  6. I did pray like that and I ask him to help me but no response i following every thing in the book but still no response I gave food for poor people no response is there something i done wrong?

    • Believing with you Khokela and Abraham…
May ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.’ (Ps 23:1) be your testimony

  7. good day,
I am working but all i get is an intern salary. All that am trusting in God is a financial breakthrough, not being financially independent is frustrating. i pray that God may enlarge my territory from this month. Amen.

  8. My pray is our father Lord Jesus Christ should give me wisdom, knowledge and understanding to do the work He have asked me to do in this world.

  9. Thank you, Helen, for yet another confirmation! God has been teaching me this lesson for awhile.

My mom owned a bookstore for 10 years. (The way we got the loan was a miracle/gift from God: our demographic owns less than .07% of the businesses in the area, but the sister of the woman I tutored in Accounting approved our bank loan.) We both love books, so it was great to have access to whatever book I wanted for free.

When I became a manager of my mom’s bookstore (after years of rejecting the position), the store policy for employees was that they could borrow any book for as long as they want if they just ask for it. One employee still stole from us. I noticed because we have the same taste in books (the philosophy/religion/non-fiction section!). By the end of her internship, she returned the stolen book…and received a gift certificate.

On her last day, she hosted an open mic party (which we conceptualized during her interview). She wrote and read a poem about hearing God’s voice. Her father is a priest who ran the Catholic school that she just graduated from. He stopped by the party to thank me and shake my hand.

When I was a child, I used to steal from that same store because my mom’s favorite word was “no”. I quickly learned to stop asking for what I want because I won’t get it (she had a lack/poverty mindset), that if I wanted something, I should just take it. I didn’t know that one day the entire store would be my inheritance.

Faith and grace are challenging lessons to learn and teach.

    1 Corinthians 13:11 NLT
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.

    Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.

    Ephesians 4:28 NLT
If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.

    Psalms 37:4-5 NLT
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.

    Philippians 4:19 NLT
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

    James 1:5 NLT, 9-10 NCV, 17-18 NLT

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Believers who are poor should take pride that God has made them spiritually rich. Those who are rich should take pride that God has shown them that they are spiritually poor. The rich will die like a wild flower in the grass.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us His true word. And we, out of all creation, became His prized possession.

  30. Hi Helen
I am completely lost as to what God wants me to do. I have been deliberately disobeying him. Blaming my lack of faith on some kind of depression and thus seeking reason to sin badly, not only towards my body but also towards God. I know its Satan who tries to get hold of me, but I feel that I need to be told something that don’t already know. I have run out of options on seeking help from people and it somehow seems as if my prayers are not being answers. You are my only hope.
Could you give me some sort of direction to take so I can get back on the right track please?
    PLEASE HELP ME
