The Key to Revival and Miracles: It’s a Bible Revival

Many of us who are prophetic at heart have a common passion for revival. We share a longing to see the church fully awakened, surrendered to God, on fire for Jesus, empowered in the Spirit.

We desire to see miracles, signs and healing, and multitudes of people encountering God.

We know (and have often been taught) that prayer, hunger for God, and making room for the move of the Holy Spirit are powerful keys that can ignite revival.

There is another key for revival that you see many times in Scripture. It is also borne out in church history—but is less talked about. And that is, a revival of God’s Word.

A Bible revival.

‘Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.’ (Psalm 119:18)

When you study the Kings God used to bring spiritual revival in the Old Testament, you see that they:

  • brought out the Scripture
  • adjusted the governing of the nation according to it
  • taught it to God’s people.
  • Used it to restore worship

National revival flowed out of the renewed emphasis placed upon Scripture.

King Jehoshaphat is well known for the battle in which he sent a choir of praisers to sing ahead of the army. The enemies turned on each other and Judah won the battle simply by taking God at His prophetic word. (2 Chron 20)

Well before that event, Jehoshaphat led a revival of God’s Word. King Jehoshaphat sent out officials, priests and tutors throughout Judah to educate all of the people in the Scriptures.

As the people of God came under the sound of His Word, the fear of God fell upon all of Judah’s enemies. Those who had once been enemies gave them tributes, wealth and gifts. (2 Chron 17)

It was a supernatural move of God.

Right now, the Holy Spirit is calling God’s people back to His Word. And here is the precedent, the plumb line God is calling us back to:

It is Jesus’ example.

After His resurrection, Jesus walked alongside some disciples on the road to Emmaus. And Luke writes: ‘…beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.’ (Luke 24:27)

We also learn of His instruction to the disciples:
‘He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.’ (Luke 24:44-45)

God is calling us back to this post-resurrection view of God’s Word; seeing Jesus revealed in every book of the Bible and in turn, making Jesus known through God’s Word.

This is the Gospel. This is the power of transformation. And this is what Paul refers to when he says:

‘And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.’ (2 Cor 3:18)

Paul’s context is beholding the glory of God in the mirror of God’s Word—a New Covenant perspective—he has just referred to the books of Moses! We often miss it, but the Holy Spirit is highlighting it.

A revival is on its way—one that reveals the Saviour through God’s Word.

  • A revival that doesn’t minimize God’s requirement for holiness, but along with it holds up for all to view, the full payment of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sin.
  • A view of God’s Word that reveals the heart of the Father who sent His Son—a God of love on a mission to restore relationship with His people from Genesis to Revelation.

Today, take time to immerse in the great treasure that is God’s Word and be transformed by the glory of the One you see.

This is the Gospel, and this is where revival begins.

  1. Thanks for the materials very useful. I am in a church that needs the church to be fully awakened, surrendered to God, on fire for Jesus, empowered in the Spirit. Its tough for me. I can see myself in dreams prophesying, healing and delivering people . trying to make it work in the physical , please help.

    • Hello Bintu, when I read your comment these verses in Hebrews 6:10-12 came to mind
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Dreams + faith + patience (time) = fulfilment…. God IS coming through for you!

  2. Hello Helen,

Tremendously blessed by your ministry, and I pray an even deeper walk with God that will glorify Him the more in Jesus name Amen.

I have been burdened with revival for the church for as long as I can remember. Dreams, impressions, etc all pointing to Christ wanting to purify His bride so she shines brighter in a very dark world.

When you shared this piece about The WORD, it’s encouraged me more because, one of the burdens of a prophetic person is to see THE WORD OF GOD rightly applied, and divided and taught because JESUS is THE WORD. The Spirit grieves within me whenever I hear The Word taught wrongly, knowing that It’s God’s Truth that sets men free.”ye shall know THE TRUTH, and THE TRUTH shall set you free”. Any Word manipulated denies the hearer or learner of the real Truth, and therefore many are in bondage in so many areas of their lives.

I am excited and encouraged. For one praying for the maturity of the body of Christ and her fullness, this prophetic word is like a huge gulp of cold water! Lol
We are not alone, all round the world people are praying for this.

    Thank You Lord!!

    God bless you Helen 🙂

    • Hello Ijeoma, I am thrilled to read your thoughts and say a big ‘amen’ to all of that. It’s truly wonderful to know the desire and burden is shared all around the world!

  3. Thank you for this timely message, Helen! Yes, I desire revival in our hearts. There needs to be a balance – or integration – of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures. It my experience, people usually favor one or the other, but they must be integrated to fulfill God’s call in each of our lives. I am being sent to remind “Bible-thumpers” about the fruit of the Holy Spirit and to show those who are led by the Spirit but weak in Scriptural knowledge that studying the Word is the easiest way to learn a life lesson. They also need to learn how to use Scriptures to support what God is saying through them to intellectual Christians who would otherwise dismiss their points as “just personal feelings”.

    • Yes Jara, so true… and reminds me of that saying which has truth to it… all Word and no Spirit would cause the church to dry up, all Spirit and no Word would cause us to blow up, but Word and Spirit together will cause us to GROW up.

      • That’s a great saying for me to remember, Helen. A few days ago, I re-read Ezekiel’s vision of the Valley of the Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37) in my devotional time. Your post and reply are confirmations that Spirit-and-Word revival is on the way. My former, insolar, dry church is experiencing the revival that I prayed for for 2 years (they just had 8 baptisms and started door-to-door witnessing!). My current church has been praying for our region. I’ve just finished a season of prayer walks around my neighborhood. So this is all very encouraging! Persistent intercession pays off. May God continue to bless your life, loved ones, and ministries.

        John 20:20-22 NLT

As [Jesus] spoke, He showed them the wounds in His hands and His side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!

Again He said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I am sending you.”

Then He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

        • I love that vision of Ezekiel, Jara. Thank you for sharing it – I will meditate on it myself this week. What wonderful news about the freshness in your church
May you continue to see the fruit of your prayers, God is at work by His Spirit in your church and region.

  5. Yes!! We have our annual Women’s Conference (Girls Day Out) tomorrow & our theme is ‘Say the Word’! We’ll be declaring a number of verses from Ps 119.
Lord, give us a hunger for Your Word!
And thank You for many signs & wonders & salvations to come!!!
    Blessings! 🙂

    • I love that Jan. I pray that you will start a Spirit-and-Word fire that will transform many and a movement that will keep on going!

  6. Wow blessed are my eyes for they have seen these words. Its such a powerful teaching. I have always and still desire a revival in my life, ministry and country. This is a blueprint to my question about revival. Thanks alot Helen.
I pray the Lord revives me. There’s a place in the spirit that i crave for. The place of the supernatural. A place of manifesting and demonstrating the Spirit and power of God. The place preaching Christ in His fullness.

    • Amen…I am praying for you right now, may that hunger in your life continue to pull and prepare you for the breakthroughs and answers to prayer that are ahead. I agree with you in prayer for the revival that you see by faith. May you see the full manifestation of it and quickly!

  7. Yes it really true that there is revival in God’s word.Because I always say anytime you read the word is a personal encounter with God and you see total transformation.Very insightful teachings you’ve given.
