As I have been praying about a prophetic word for 2017, the Holy Spirit reminded me of a vision I had a few months ago.
I saw an arrow head descend with a bolt of lightning from Heaven. The arrow head went deep into the earth, where it struck and exposed a foundation. That foundation was glowing red hot, as iron does in a fire.
As we enter the New Year, I believe God is speaking about a move of the Holy Spirit in which He is pointing us back to the foundation of our ‘first love’ for Jesus.
Get ready for things to heat up.
Prophetic word for 2017: From Captive to Captivated
The word that the Holy Spirit has brought to my attention as we lean into this New Year is ‘captivated.’
To captivate means, ‘to attract and hold the attention or interest of, as by beauty or excellence…’
The Bible is full of examples of people who were captivated by God. Those whose attention was caught and held by a Person they saw, knew and loved.
Zacchaeus was captivated by Jesus. His desire to see Jesus was so great, that he ran ahead of the crowd to climb a tree, because he was short in stature. (Luke 19)
His actions drew the attention of the Saviour. Jesus said, ‘I am coming to your house.’
Hear Jesus say, ‘I am coming to your home, your neighborhood, your workplace. Get ready to receive Me.’
Sin no longer held an attraction for Zacchaeus, because he discovered God’s grace. He was captivated by a Saviour.
Has some area of fear or temptation been holding you captive? Take another look at Jesus. When your attention is caught and held by your King, sin and fear will fall away.
Your whole life is about to move from being captive to living a captivated life.
From Distraction to Attraction
Mary was captivated by Jesus. Her attention was fixed upon Him, as she sat listening to what he had to say.
In the meantime, her sister Martha was distracted by all the serving that needed to be done. Jesus said to Martha, ‘you are worried and upset by many things, but only one thing is needed.’ (see Luke 10:38-42)
That Martha was serving, was not the problem—the trouble was that she had lost her joy of hosting Jesus.
Have you ever tried to overcome your distraction by trying to focus? You focus dutifully for a short period of time, before becoming distracted again.
As this year begins, the answer to all your distraction is not a New Year’s resolution. The Holy Spirit wants to overcome your distraction by replacing it with a glorious attraction towards Jesus.
This is freedom!
Not live captive to religious rules or expectations, but to live CAPTIVATED by the One who is truly amazing.
You will see your Healer.
You will see your Deliverer.
You will see your Provider.
You will be amazed as you discover where God leads you, into new initiatives, new areas of creativity.
Your pursuit of Jesus will bring clarity to work and relationships. The lives of many people will be touched by the Presence of God on your life.
Prophetic word for 2017: Captivated by God’s Word
On the road to Emmaus, two weary, grieving disciples were captivated as Jesus revealed the Messiah (Himself) in the Scriptures. They later said, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us?’ (Luke 24:32)
Are you captive to a sense of duty or obligation to God’s Word? Is Bible study something you know you should get to, but rarely do?
This year, you can be one whose heart is burning as you captivated by God’s Word. Expect your attention to be caught and held as the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus to you in the Scriptures.
It is time to be captivated.
Miracles are Being Unleashed
History is made by those who are captivated. Their attention is riveted—caught and held—by a vision that is one of greatness and change. They move towards that captivating vision and take others with them.
Be captivated by Jesus, and as your attention is transfixed upon Him, the Father will give you His dreams for your life. Others will follow you.
Miracles are about to break open. There are things that God has had in storage for you and the lids are about to come off. It’s time.
Problems are going to be solved by supernatural revelation from the Holy Spirit.
You will experience great fruitfulness, because you are living focused. You are focused on where God’s Presence is, what His favour is upon, and what He is doing.
In 2017 you will see things shift and move, new things will be birthed and the impossible will be made possible.
Say ‘yes’ to the move of the Holy Spirit and live captivated.
‘First love’ is an expression taken from Revelation 2:4. The church at Ephesus was still doing great things for God, but they had left their foundation of first love for Jesus. God is more concerned about our intimate relationship with Him, and that we are motivated by love for Him, than what we do. (See also Matt 7:21-23)
